Storm out 非常生气地离开

storm 本身有风暴、暴风雨的意思，但当我们说某人 storm out of 某处的时候，

代表他心情很不好，怒气冲冲的离开。

She stormed out of there because the heavy rain made her soaked.

她在被雨淋湿后气冲冲的离开这里。

※气冲冲离开某处要用 storm out of + 地点，小心不要忘掉 of 啰！

Under the weather 生病

千万别翻成在天气下面，

under the weather = sick ，代表一个人生病了很不舒服

这句短语老外很常用到，下次跟朋友聊天不要再用 sick ，换用这句看看吧：

Oh please, don't ask me to cook today, I'm a bit under the weather .

拜托～今天别叫我煮饭，我生病了。

Weather that storm 闯过难关

当一件事情困难度很高，非常难完成，

然而你努力了很久最后你 weather that storm，终于办到了！

It was extremely hard for me to pass the exam, but finally, I weathered that storm.

考试要及格很难，但我做到啦！

Get wind of 知道

= found out，发现、知道某事物。

The police got wind of the illegal drug deal.

药品违法交易的风声已经走漏给警察知道了。

I don't want my boss to get wind of the fact that I'm leaving.

我不想让老板知道我要离职。

She got wind of the birthday party, because someone made a slip of a tongue.

因为某人说溜了嘴，所以她知道我们在准备她的生日派对了。

※ made a slip of a tongue 说溜嘴

= -let slip / let something slip out

不小心把秘密说出去也可以用 let the secret slip out 来表示唷！

rain on someone's parade 泼冷水

这句照字面翻还蛮好猜到他的意思，当某人在举办游行的时候你浇了一盆水下去～

楼下游行的人的好心情都被你打坏啦！

I hate to rain on your parade, but your plans are all wrong.

我不想泼你冷水，但你的计划是全错的。

【补充】

• parade 夸耀，游行

When he beats the race / all other players, people will make a victory parade for him.

当他击败对手后，人们会为他举行庆祝游行。

• gay parade 同志游行
• victory parade 庆祝游行
• take a rain check 更改行程 (= rescheduled)

这句也很有趣，不是叫你去查隔天会不会下雨，

而是把原先的约定往后移、改期的意思。

Sorry I have a meeting tomorrow so I have to take a rain check .

抱歉我明天有个会要开，下次再跟你约。

I'll take a rain check on that drink tonight, if that's all right.

如果可以的话，今晚的酒局改下次好了。

Calm before the storm 暴风雨前的宁静

这句话意思是指形容原先很好的气氛突然间消失不见，

好比说一对情侣原本很相亲相爱，但因为某些原因导致他们快分手，

这种尴尬的氛围就可以用 calm before the storm 来形容。

Their relationship is like the calm before the storm.

他们感觉快分手了。

On cloud nine 开心

不是叫你做在九朵云上，

而是指一个人心情好到飞上云端，开心得不得了！

When I got my promotion, I was on cloud nine.

当我知道我升官时，我超开心！

※在 Serbia 有另一种说法叫 "on seven sky"，意思是指喜欢上一个人，恋爱的好心情

（在婚礼上）如果你穿白色会抢走她（新娘）的目光。

简单形容好天气，如果你是英语初学者，

那你可以先记下最简单形容天气的句式是：

It is ________ .

= It is a(n) __________ day.

= The weather is ___________.

底线里面可以放入任意形容天气的形容词。

接下来介绍一些比较简单，

你可以轻松使用的 "好天气" 形容词：

• sunny / fair 晴朗的
• good / nice / fine / lovely 好的
• beautiful / perfect / glorious 好极的

除此之外，好天气你还能用⋯⋯

sun-kissed 阳光充足的；肤色健康的

sun-kissed 是一个很形象化的形容词，

kissed 是过去分词形态的被动语态，表示"被亲" 

所以 sun-kissed 就是被太阳亲的。

被阳光亲吻，是不是很形象又有些浪漫的说法？

这个词可以用来形容人或地方被太阳充分照耀，

用在人身上，还有因为太阳照射，所以呈现健康肤色的意思。

【例句】

He was sun-kissed from being on the beach all day.

因为在海边待了整天，他的皮肤被晒得很好看。

不管是 not a cloud in sight

还是 not a cloud in the sky

意思都一样，是 "万里无云的好天气" 。

可以形容太阳的形容词

通常我们会认定，可以看到太阳的日子，

就可以被称之为好天气，

但其实出太阳也分为很多种，一起学一下相关形容词吧！

形容一天当中，不同时候的太阳：

→ morning / afternoon / evening sun

形容正中午炎热的太阳

→ midday / noonday sun

形容炙热的太阳

→ blazing / burning sun

形容正在升起／落下的太阳

→ rising / setting sun

【补充】

既然都说到 sun 了，再让我们补充三个和 sun 有关的短语。

a place in the sun 

在悠闲假日的阳光底下，你在草皮或沙滩上，

找到一片空地可以躺下来晒晒太阳，是不是觉得挺幸运的？

所以 a place in the sun 就是指 "让人羡慕的状态、职位" ，

可以用在职场上，或是某个人的生活方式让人羡慕。

【例句】

After years of investment, Leo can finally enjoy his place in the sun.

经过多年的投资理财，Leo 终于可以享受让人羡慕的生活了。

under the sun

你是不是以为 under the sun 意思是在阳光下？

大错特错！其实真正的 "在阳光下" 是 in the sun

under the sun 主要的意思是 "世界上的一切；一切可能之事" 。

【例句】

David has tried everything under the sun, but he just can't win her heart.

David 已经试过世界上所有办法了，但还是无法获得她的芳心。

catch the sun

有人可以抓到太阳吗？当然没办法！

所以 catch the sun 不是抓住太阳，当然也不是被太阳抓住，

catch the sun 的意思是皮肤被晒黑。

【例句】

After being outside all day, you've really caught the sun.

在外面待了一整天，你整个被晒黑了。

形容天气很热的形容词

boiling 炙热的

boil 作为动词，意思是沸腾、煮沸，

那你也很好理解 boiling 的意思就是非常热、极度炙热的。

你可以说 "It's boiling." ，也可以说 "It's boiling hot." 

两者都是形容天气非常酷热，boiling hot 是常见的组合搭配。

并且这里的 boiling 可以用 burning 取代，表示燃烧的。

It's boiling. = It's boiling hot. = It's burning hot.

这里是燃烧还是沸腾，都有极高温的含义。

【例句】

The campus is always boiling hot.

校园总是热到不行。

【补充】

沸腾加上 ing 意思是炙热的，

那如果是过去分词形态的 boiled 呢？

"被煮沸的" ，所以我们把 boiled 理解为水煮过的，

像是 boiled egg（水煮蛋）。

scorching 灼热的、灼热地

scorching 这个词比较特别，

形容词、副词都是同个形态 scorching 。

scorch 本身的意思是（因为高温而）变色、烧焦，

所以 scorching 就是好像要被高温灼伤，热到不行的意思。

而 scorcher 也和天气有些相关，意思是 "大热天n." 

你可以说：

It is really scorching! = It is really a scorcher!

（今天天气热到不行！）

【例句】

Students took to the street under the scorching heat of the sun to protest against the policy.

学生们在灼热的大太阳下走上街头抗议这项政策。

take to the street 意思是（为了抗争、争取而）走上街头；

protest against sth / sb 是 "向⋯⋯抗议；反对⋯⋯" 的意思。

sweltering （让人难受地）炎热的

sweltering 一样是炎热、炙热的，

但意思和 scorching、boiling 有一些不一样，

sweltering 更强调让人觉得不舒服的那种热。

所以说，It's sweltering. 和 It's a sweltering day.

除了说明天气很热外，还表达热带给说话者的不舒服。

【例句】

Because the air conditioning didn't work, it was sweltering in the living room.

空调坏掉了，所以客厅热得让人难受。

关于热的补充

• heatwave 热浪

heat 本身就是高温的意思，

像是常见搭配用法：the heat of the sun（太阳的高温）。

这几年你应该经常在夏天的新闻上看到这样的标题：

"热浪来袭！○○○ 再创高温新纪录" 

我们一起来看一则新闻标题：

"Siberian heatwave, early Greenland ice melt worry researchers" 

先解决两个地名，Siberian 西伯利亚、Greenland 格陵兰；

意思是西伯利亚热浪来袭，格陵兰冰山的提早融化让研究人员十分担忧。

你会不会觉得很奇怪，西伯利亚这么冷的地方怎么有热浪？

你知道不是天气很热，就叫 heatwave 吗？

根据世界气象组织 (WMO) 的定义，

每天最高温要超过 30 年的气候平均 5 摄氏度，

且这个状态要持续超过 5 日，才符合定义上的标准。

听起来好像要达成这样的条件很难，但这几年热浪频繁，

极端气候 (extreme weather) 的例子越来越常见。

【例句】

A heatwave hit in late June .

六月下旬，热浪来袭。
